I wonder if One Direction are watching this afternoon?
So who's Robson playing? Kaia Kanepi, ranked eight places lower than
Robson at 46 in the world.....and the Estonian is serving first.
It's not the first time Robson has reached this stage in a Grand Slam....She made it to the 4th
round of the US Open last September where she beat champions Kim Clijsters and
Li Na along the way. This though is in front of an expectant British crowd and facing the usual media mayhem following her every move....talk about pressure. She's looking cool though so far.
More news from a British perspective. Current men's doubles champion Jonny Marray and partner Colin Fleming are two sets down to Robert Lindstedt and Daniel Nestor.
Another comfortable service game from Robson. Serena Williams meanwhile is ripping into Sabine Lisicki on Centre Court.
Kanepi is still looking edgy with her serve but she grounds out another game. Again, Robson has chances but a couple of wild ones hand the initiative to her opponent. The sun just breaking through those London clouds.
Blimey...there's no great time for a toilet stop is there......would wearing a nappy be inappropriate for a game like this?
Serena 4-1 up against Lisicki in second set.
Mmmmm more screams from Robson as Kanepi cruises through her service game. 3-3.
Tense. 30-30 on Robson serve. Vital VITAL moment.
Robson wastes a cracking chance when steaming into the net BUT.......dishes up a corking serve to get it to deuce.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm does it again - a ninth ace and it's deuce again.
Stunning rally to get it to ADV by Robson. Kanepi is hanging in there and Robson is needing the fireworks but it's working. A loose forehand by Kanepi as Robson holds. Gutsy. 4-3.
Thanks for that Geoff. I think you're right. I'll show more control. Great control of nerve by Robson so far though. I fear she needs another gear to get through this one.
Robson grits her teeth and POW....a brilliant forehand winner gets the crowd slapping this palms together. Big groans as Kanepi gets lucky with the net chord but Robson smacks a cracker and gets it back to 30-30. It's what she needs to do. Take it to your opponent Laura. But lets another one go as Kanepi survives. 4-4.
Serena is back. It's official. She wins second set 6-1 and it's into a third setter against Lisicki.
Am I allowed to mention business end again? Laura takes another strong serve game and is one game from levelling match. But as shown so far, she's wobbled when it really counts.
Harsh words from Mark on women's tennis? What does everybody think of the women's game? Comments on this blog please or tweet us @msnsport
Remember - Andy Murray coming up after Serena v Lisicki battle.
Easy pickings for Kanepi and it's all level. Robson needs to stay positive here. Bring on those booming serves.
Three break points and it's looking a little gloomy for the Brit.
