Some rare joy from Tiger with a birdie on the 10th and he gets back to +12
Hunter Mahan: "I feel very good at what I'm doing. It's a 100% mental challenge, This is when things can get in the head and the best defence you have for that then the greater chance you have." (Hunter is on level par and tees off with Mickelson at 8.20pm BST)
Sergio Garcia having a stinker - although thankfully the US crowd so far are holding off from giving him too much grief. Bogeys on 5, 7 and 9, birdies on 10 and 13 but then has a nightmare on the green at 14 with a 7. The Spaniard drops back to +15.
Oh dear. Not the best of 5 minutes for those looking to make ground on Mickelson. Els bogeys the third after his two early birdies. And after his birdie on the second, Westwood bogeys the third after that awful tee shot.
Joy for Rory and it's a sweet putt that rattles against the back of the cup on the seventh and he slips up to +9.
Time for Michael Kim and the tangoed Rickie Fowler on the tee. Any thoughts on golfing fashion? Let me know your favourite outfit ever seen on the golf course....
Steady par on the fourth for Westwood. Birdie and a bogey so far. He'll need to bang in a few more birdies with the land of hell awaiting on the final few holes.
The day was a cracker for Japan's 21-year-old Hideki Matsuyama 20 minutes ago. What's better than a cracker? Super cracker smacker?....he's holes a third successive birdie and after a par on the 13th, he's sitting pretty on +6. (+4 for the day). Just amazing.
Not a good start for big hope Ian Poulter after the Englishman posts a bogey on the opening hole. Mistake free he demanded two hours ago. Mmmmm
Watch out folks. Octopus alert. YEP you heard right.....there's an octopus on the first tee. Aussie Jason Day and Billy Horschel - the proud owner of trousers donning a series of octopuses. Love 'em.
Sorry - I should have provided a pre-picture warning of nakedness. Outrageous. Please forgive me.
Ernie Els has gone from super to pooper in half an hour. The Spouth African began the day with two birdies, bogeyed the third, parred the fourth but has just carded a double bogey on the fifth. He's back on +7.
"Good luck Phil, bring it home" is the cry from a bloke cheering on Mickelson who walks off the practice tee. The leader is 20 minutes from teeing off.
And here comes the English boys on the opener. Luke Donald steps up and slaps on to the fairway. Steady stuff. Next up is Justin Rose (in sweet white trousers) who belts it down the right side of the fairway. Anybody fancying a first English winner for 43 years?
Anybody seen the mighty octopus on Horschel yet? All thoughts please.
Football pundit Gary Lineker tweets: "Getting very windy at the golf as Mickelson arrives on the range. The 2 things not to be connected."
Loving the old faces of Phil Mickelson. So who's your money on then folks? Can anybody see off the nicest man in golf?
Two pars for Kim while partner Rickie Fowler makes it a par and a bogey.
Donald's ball drifts to the right and he pops it in for a steady par at the first. 18 pars today might just be enough you know. Rose from 15 feet and his ball slopes off to the right. Two pars from the Englishmen. That'll do boys.
The noise builds around the firs tee...guess who's going to be swinging his black pants in around 5 minutes? CLUE: His surname rhymes with Hickelson
Bogey and three pars for a pretty unspectacular start for Poulter but perhaps that's what is needed today (+6). Few birdies needed though because he's off the pace.
Mickelson getting into the zone. Standing on the first tee, wriggling his broad shoulders, looking into the sky....reckon he's thinking about his five runner-up years?......here comes Hunter Mahan first though....
Mahan slaps it down the middle...and here comes the whoop whoop whooops....Mickelson (who looks as though he could with a trim) ...
Mickelson finds the rough but he should have a comfortable wedge into the flat stuff.
