And one of those plays and misses becomes and edge to Trott in the slips.
Khawaja gets off the mark with a pull for 4 first ball
Afternoon session summary
The resumption after lunch was delayed for over an hour by a heavy shower. Australia's opening pair of Warner and Rogers frustrated England by putting on 109 runs until the partnership was finally broken when Swann found the edge of Rogers' bat. He went for 49. Warner at the other end looked very comfortable throughout even against Swann bowling out of the rough. Even after the loss of the wicket Warner continued to attack Swann ably partnered by Usman Khawaja. Australia go to tea having made a massive dent in their chase, they need another 179 to win.
Right - we are back and it's going to be a mammoth evening session of 2.5 hours
Some big turn for Swann straight after tea.
Atherton is pondering why Cook has been reluctant to bowl Root
Warner cuts away and moves on to 67* - he really has played very well.
Khawaja dead in front of all 3 stumps. Swann gets his second. But that only brings Clarke to the crease
Anderson has been ridiculously off colour. Before the Test I wrote a comment piece that he should be rested as he looked knackered. I've not seen anything this Test to suggest I was wrong
Clarke plays a flick off this legs that is an ominous sign for England - he's seeing it just fine
Anderson gets a thick edge off Clarke but it goes straight on to the ground.
Cook brings Bresnan on to replace Swann and he gets the breakthrough removing Warner with a beautiful delivery that just moves away to get the edge
It has gone very dark and I think we might be going to come off for either rain or light imminently
They're staying on but it seems darker to me than when they went off yesterday
England appeal for caught behind but Tony Hill doesn't give it. It doesn't look like he hit it to me. Daft review - he's not got any bat on that at all
England have been hopeless with their reviews the last few times.
So at drinks - Australia need another 125 runs to win.
Well well well - that absolute beauty from Broad changes everything.
England are very much on top now. This is a tremendous Test match
Hard to believe Australia were 147 for 1 just an hour or so ago. England looked out of ideas. Now their tails are up. Australia have lost five wickets for 32 runs in 13 overs.
Siddle ducks into a bouncer from Broad. It cannons off the end of his bat handle to deep square leg at a rate of knots!
Haddin leaps across his crease to Broad. The ball wraps him on his bads. Huge appeal. It's given out but Haddin reviews.....
It's out! Hawkeye said it was clipping the outside of the leg stump. Harsh. England will not care one jot.
